Test kits – what’s the right one for you?

There’s been a bit of a revolution in sexual health testing recently. New advances mean you no longer need to head for a sexual health clinic to get checked out – it’s possible to do your screening in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Our new range of products at The Freedoms Shop offer the flexibility to test for the conditions that you’re concerned about. But each kit is different. So which one will suit your needs?

Biosure HIV Self-Test

This is the UK’s first ever home HIV testing kit. Simple to use, it involves taking your own small blood sample. Within 15 minutes, the device will deliver your HIV status. The kit also includes a Next Steps Guide with advice on what to do next, whatever your result.

This is for you if… you want to check your HIV status, without having to go to a clinic or to wait for results from a lab.

Not for you if… you’d like to discuss the implications of your result with a health professional before and after your test, or if you want to test for a wider range of conditions at the same time.

Home sexual health kit

Another simple-to-use kit. This one involves taking more samples, though, because it tests for a several conditions – HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

After taking your samples, you post them off to our lab (all our kit samples are tested by NHS-approved clinics, guaranteeing the same level of accuracy as visiting a sexual health clinic).

Your results will come by text or phone within 5 working days. If there are any positive results, a sexual health adviser will call you to discuss the care you need. And you can choose to talk to one of our advisers regardless of your results, if you’d like to chat about any aspect of your sexual health.

This is for you if… you’d like to be screened for a comprehensive range of sexually transmitted infections, in a totally discreet and convenient way.

Not for you if… you have symptoms – in that case we’d always recommend you make an appointment with your local sexual health clinic.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea kit

This works in the same way as the home sexual health kit. But as the name suggests, it focuses purely on Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

This is for you if… you want a quick, convenient way to check yourself out for the two most common sexually transmitted infections.

Not for you if… you have symptoms, or you want to get the full range of tests.

A choice tailor-made for you…

Of course, it’s your sexual experiences that define exactly what should be in your kit. But you don’t have to work it out for yourself: our nifty decision tree tool will do it for you. We designed this flow chart to show you the most appropriate kit based on your sexual behaviour.
